Fields of Research
Main Research Interests at FSD
In close interdisciplinary collaboration with public authorities, external research facilities and industrial partners, FSD explores multiple areas of interest across manned and unmanned flight. To the main research topics belong the development and application of methods in the area of:
Modelling
Modelling of dynamic flight characteristics, especially of unconventional und unmanned aerial vehicles by means of well-known handbook equations and computational methods
Identification
Identification of dynamic flight characteritics by means of laboratory and wind tunnel experiments or by manned and unmanned test flights
Automation
Automation including design of flight control, stabilization, guidance, mission control and autonomy
Optimization
Optimization of aircraft performance or flight qualities like stability, controllability and disturbance
Simulation
Simulation of dynamic flight characteristics, either offline using Matlab/Simulink or in realtime by means of manned flight simulators
